As a member of the defending state championship
team La Cueva senior QB Connor O’Toole is also
the state’s top ranked recruit in the Class of 2020.
he’ll get more chances to lay the lumber this
fall as he will play more snaps at linebacker, a
move he savors.
O’Toole is not only a leader in the lethal passing
attack at La Cueva, he’s also the state’s No. 1
college recruit in the Class of 2020, according to
Rivals.com. Wyoming seems to be the leader in
the clubhouse but he’s leaving his options open,
at least for the moment. He’s pretty certain he
will study either engineering or accounting once
in college.
What is of more importance to him right
now is making the most of his senior football
season. That means once again teaming up
with classmate Price Robertson to form the
best receiver tandem in the state. Want proof?
Between them last season the two caught 96
passes for 1,897 yards and 19 TDs.
“Our coaches do a great job of creating our
offense and putting our players in position to
be successful,” says O’Toole. “We have a lot of
confidence in them and they allow us to go out
and make things happen.”
Connor first got involved in football in his
early days of elementary school, dominating the
games at recess, of course. By third grade he’d
fallen in with a group of players who have turned
out to become his high school teammates...with
a little help from his mom.
“When I found out there was tackle football in
third grade I told my mom to sign me up and she
has been my biggest fan ever since,” he says.
Not just in football but in life, Connor O’Toole
holds himself to a high standard—do it right
or don’t do it all, that sort of thing. He’s certainly
making things work in the classroom, holding
down a perfect 4.0 GPA the past two years, and
is also an outstanding track and field athlete.
At the 2019 New Mexico state meet he won the
300 meter hurdles, finished second in the 100
(missing out on the gold by .01 of a second) and
placed third in the 200.
As for defending that state football title, O’Toole
says his crew is ready for action.
“I 100 percent believe we can defend,” says
Connor. “At La Cueva we have that target on our
back and by winning it last year it just got bigger.”
